We Interrupt Our Blog for Economics!

January 30, 2011

An unfortunate habit of mine (in the eyes of some people, at least) is to stick my nose into many areas outside those of my expertise, such as child-rearing (which is only a little bit within my expertise) and socioeconomic politics (hardly my province, but one can hope)! In light of this, I’m going to delay my post on Balance.

To go all hippie-economics on you for a moment, I’m going to throw out my socioeconomic beliefs. It’s my blog, naysayers. Shoo.

In terms of the two major parties in the US political system, I would have to identify myself as a Democrat– it’s much closer to my liberal, somewhat socialist beliefs than the alternative would be. I support the military (and plan to serve in it), support the death penalty in extreme cases, am pro-choice, believe education should be the number-one funded area in our budget, support some reductions to our military budget (such as yearly contributions to OTHER military budgets), support the end of government involvement in marital law (e.g., stop even begging the question of whether homosexual marriage is legal or not, because there’s no legal reason it shouldn’t be), disagree with the electoral college (as it overrules and makes essentially powerless the popular vote), and have plenty of opinions.

This slideshow was posted by a good friend of mine, in whose area of expertise socioeconomic politics DO fall, and helps to explain some of the growing malaise in the United States.

Enjoy! Don’t forget to post your comments, thoughts, and questions. Have a great day!

thats right miles, don’t take no shit from anyone who doesn’t have a reason to give it to you! I can identify with many of your stances on political issues, I think it is a little rediculous that our defence budget is litereally bigger than the next 10 largest national defence budgets combined. I am also against gun control in the case of handguns, shotguns, and rifles, assault rifles are pushing it a little though.

Hey Miles. Thanks for inviting me to check out your blog. I haven’t read too much of what you have written so far, but I did manage to take a look at this one (probably because is was short – sorry).

With that preface out of the way, I have to say I’m surprised by your support for the death penalty. Not very socialist or liberal of you…

Thank you for taking the time to not only check it out, but subscribe to it! I believe you’re the first person to do so.
And true, it’s not very socialist or liberal. But having those tendencies doesn’t take me through every issue, eh?
Glad to have you aboard, and maybe you could do this blog a service by writing a guest piece sometime. Something to consider, at least.
